How to Draw A Falcon
Step 1
In this first step of this tutorial on how to draw a falcon, we’ll start with a pencil outline of the falcon.
We’ll use a pencil for now, as this rough guide will help you add detail in the next few steps. For now, you can follow the reference image to draw the rough shape of the hawk.
Once you are happy with its appearance, you can draw the falcon’s head and neck with the pen.
You can also draw the eye and beak; as you start with the pen, you will add finer details.
Step 2
In this part of your falcon drawing, you’ll use the pencil to trace the outlines of the wings you drew in step 1.
Now as you draw, add some hard lines along the edges of the wings to create feathery detail. With these wings, you are ready for the next step.
Step 3
We will work on some details in this guide step on how to draw a falcon. To add feather detail, you can add many sharp curved lines connecting.
These extend inward from the edge of the wings towards the center. The wing on our left will have many more of these lines than the wing on the right.
These lines are simple detail, but they effectively create convincing feather detail!
Step 4
Your falcon drawing needs more body contouring, so let’s add it to this step. We will add some outlines to the hawk’s legs and tail feathers for this part.
As with the previous steps, these lines go over the pencil lines, but you’ll add finer detail over time.
Once these lines are drawn, we will add a few final details, which we’ll cover in the next step.
Step 5
This part of our guide to drawing a falcon includes refining the final details and elements before coloring it.
First, you can draw the lower part of the falcon’s legs. Then when you’ve added all the final details in this reference image, you can erase all the pencil lines from step one.
Be careful when doing this erasing as you want to ensure all pen lines are completely dry before you start digging with the eraser.
Before proceeding to the final step, add any additional elements and details you would like to your falcon’s design!
You can change the position of the falcon a bit, bring out some finer details, or even draw a background.
You may be looking for images of beautiful scenic backgrounds to use as inspiration for some backgrounds you may design.
Step 6
You’ve reached the final step of your falcon drawing, and that’s a lot of fun! This is the step where you can take over and show your creativity with your colors.
In our reference image, we used shades of brown for the feathers and orange for the beak and legs.
We chose these colors for our example, but you can use any color you like for yours!
You could even go for a more stylish look and use your favorite bright colors for your falcon!
You can color these elements for additional color variations if you’ve drawn a background or other details.
Whether you add your colors with paints, crayons, markers or any other tool you like, we know it will look amazing!
